Over the last weekend of August there was a storm with really high winds. As such the top roof flashing came completely loose and was crashing around – scaring all our kids inside with the very loud noise and vibrations!
When the winds had died down we climbed up to investigate and found not only a loose flashing but a hole in the slate roof. Up until now the slate roof has proven rather hard wearing but there are many patches in the internal valley of the roof and we suspect a slate had slipped out of place months ago allowing the wind to take hold of the slate tiles. We found one smashed next to our van (parked right in front of the house!) and some sticking up vertically in the lawn which is so scary to think they could have seriously injured our children or anyone walking past.
Thankfully Jonathan could repair the flashing and our trusty french slate repair guy will fix the slate all up tomorrow…
